Our client requires the services of a Mechanic (light auto, heavy vehicle or diesel/plant mechanic) with broad experience to work on a wide range of equipment from small motors to heavy plant. This is a workshop-based role situated in Katoomba that occasionally requires travel to the Springwood depot. 


  • Service, maintain and repair plant, light and heavy vehicle fleet including:
  • Inspection and testing
  • Diagnosis and faultfinding
  • Assist with the supervision and practical education of apprentices and non-trade staff
  • Focus on business process improvement, and compliance with all relevant regulations, directives and safe working procedures, reporting any unsafe vehicles/plant/equipment or practices
  • Provision of advice when requested by the Team Leader to other sections within the organisation on matters relating to plant maintenance and operation.
  • Actively participate in Team meetings
  • The position may require the delegation of tasks to non-trade staff or apprentices. It also requires a level of authority to undertake repairs and determine the operational safety of equipment

What you will need:

  • Hold an industry-recognised Trade Qualification as a Motor Mechanic/Plant Mechanic or Heavy Vehicle Mechanic together with M.V.R.I.A. certification.
  • Relevant post-trade qualifications and proven post-trade experience and knowledge in the maintenance and operations of light and/or heavy vehicles, and plant equipment
  • Hold a current N.S.W. C class (or higher) driver’s license
  • Proven ability to work both unsupervised and in a team environment
  • Flexible attitude/open to change & committed to continuous skill development
  • Commitment to providing professional customer service
  • Have a sound knowledge of and commitment to Workplace Health & Safety principles and procedures
  • Basic computer skills
  • Good level of physical fitness and self-motivation

Nice to have:

  • Current N.S.W. Class MR driver’s license
  • Tertiary qualification in hydraulic systems maintenance, operations, and repair
  • Proven experience with M.I.G., T.I.G., stick, or oxy welding
  • Fitting and machining experience
  • RMS authorised examiner
  • Working knowledge of quality, environmental, and WHS practices

Special Conditions of Employment

  • The position will be based at Katoomba, however you may be required to fulfill a similar role at Springwood when requested
  • The normal hours of work for this position are 7.00 am to 3.30 pm Monday to Friday
  • You may be required to work outside the normal hours on occasion
