Each October, Mental Health Month gives us the opportunity to raise awareness of mental health and wellbeing. The impacts of COVID-19, such as physical distancing and isolation can make us feel anxious, stressed and worried. Read about what you can do to look after your mental wellbeing, and look out for those around you, as we face these challenges together.

Did you know? 

It is estimated that 1 in 6 working-age people will be suffering from mental illness. A further one-sixth of the population will be suffering from symptoms associated with mental ill-health, such as worry, sleep problems, and fatigue,

Helping yourself

  • Get physically active.
  • Eat well and drink water regularly.
  • Get 7-9 hours of sleep per night.
  • Stay connected via phone, video calls or online groups.
  • Take breaks, read or meditate.
  • Talk about it, it's normal to have ups and downs. Speaking about it with family, friends or a support service can assist.
  • If you are feeling anxious or depressed for an extended period, see a GP or other health professional.

Helping others

  • Check in; ask how your colleagues, family and friends are feeling.
  • Catch up with your colleagues, friends or family for coffee.
  • If you're worried, suggest they speak to someone they trust, see a GP or health professional.
